The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer game identity.
The president expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Teamβ
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope youβre as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: βI am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and weβre eager for that collaboration to continue.β
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fallβs Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far youβve come. You took the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one thatβs ready to deliver on its potential to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable progress youβve made, Iβm excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all eager to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
